Fence Installation Lead Forms: The 5-Field Form That Doubled Quote Requests

The 5-field form structure that doubled qualified fence installation quote requests — plus the conditional logic that filtered tire-kickers.

A Colorado fence company we work with had a 12-field quote form that converted at 1.9% and produced 60% junk leads. We rebuilt it as a 3-step, 5-field progressive form. New conversion: 4.2%. Junk rate: 14%. Here's the structure.

Step 1: project type (one tap)

Four large image-based buttons: Wood, Vinyl, Chain Link, Aluminum/Iron. Tapping one auto-advances. This single question filters the lead into the right pricing band before the homeowner has invested any effort.

Step 2: linear footage (slider)

A slider from 50 to 500 linear feet with a real-time estimated price range that updates as they slide. Showing the price range is the magic — homeowners who would have requested a quote and then ghosted at the actual price self-select out here, before they tie up the office's time.

Step 3: contact (3 fields)

First name, phone, zip. That's it. Email is optional. Asking for last name, address, and 'how did you hear about us' tanks completion roughly 12% per field.

Why progressive disclosure works

Homeowners decide whether to complete a form within 3 seconds of seeing it. A 12-field form triggers an immediate 'this is a lot' response. A 3-step form with one easy question first triggers a 'this is quick' response. Same total field count, dramatically different completion rate.

The CRM handoff that closes the loop

Form submission fires three things simultaneously: SMS to the office line, calendar invite for a same-day callback window, and an autoresponder text to the homeowner that says 'We'll call you in the next 20 minutes.' Speed-to-lead under 20 minutes is the single biggest close-rate lever in fence sales.

Frequently asked questions

Should fence companies show price ranges on the form?

Yes. Hiding price filters out the serious buyers who don't want to play games. It only retains the ones who'll ghost when they see the real number.

Is a 3-step form mobile-friendly?

Yes — properly built progressive forms convert better on mobile than desktop. The full-screen, one-question-at-a-time UX matches how thumbs work.
