Google Business Profile Suspended? Reinstatement Playbook
Suspension kills your map-pack traffic overnight. Here's the diagnosis-first playbook that gets profiles reinstated instead of permanently denied.
A suspension takes your listing out of Maps and out of the three-pack immediately. For a service business, that's often half the inbound phone volume gone in a day. The good news: most suspensions are reversible, and the failure mode is almost always the same — owners appeal before they diagnose.
Soft vs hard suspension
A soft suspension removes your ability to manage the listing but the listing stays visible. A hard suspension removes the listing from Maps and search entirely. Hard suspensions almost always follow a guideline violation; soft ones often follow an edit that triggered re-verification.
The seven common causes
- Keywords added to the business name field
- A virtual office, coworking desk, or UPS box used as the address
- Service-area business showing a street address it doesn't staff
- Multiple listings sharing one address or phone number
- A sudden edit to name, address, category, or website right after verification
- Website content that doesn't match the business name or services listed
- Review manipulation — gated, incentivized, or purchased reviews
Diagnose before you appeal
You get a limited number of credible appeals. Before filing, screenshot your current profile state, pull your edit history, confirm your website's name/address/phone matches the listing exactly, and remove any violation. Appealing an uncorrected profile usually produces a denial that's much harder to reverse.
The reinstatement steps that work
- Fix the violation first — name field, address, duplicate listings, review practices.
- Gather evidence: business license, utility bill, signage photo, insurance certificate, vehicle wrap photo for SABs.
- File the reinstatement request from the owner account, not a manager account.
- Describe the correction plainly in one paragraph; attach evidence as clear images.
- Wait the full review window before following up. Repeat filings slow the queue.
Avoiding the second suspension
After reinstatement, don't edit multiple fields at once, keep the name field exactly as it appears on your signage and license, and put review requests on a compliant automated flow that asks every customer the same way. Consistency is what keeps the listing stable.
If you'd rather not handle it
Profile rebuild and guideline cleanup are included in our $99/month plan. We diagnose the cause, correct it, prepare the evidence pack, and put compliant review automation in place so it doesn't happen twice.
Frequently asked questions
How long does reinstatement take?
Typically three to fourteen days once a correct, evidence-backed request is filed. Appeals filed without fixing the violation usually get denied within days.
Will I lose my reviews?
Reviews are normally restored with the listing. They're only lost if the listing is deleted rather than suspended, or if Google removes reviews for manipulation.
Can I create a new listing instead?
No. Creating a duplicate while suspended usually gets both listings removed and makes reinstatement much harder.
