Tree Service SEO Case Study: From 4 Leads/Month to 84 in 7 Months

From 4 to 84 leads/month for a Raleigh tree service in 7 months — with the full month-by-month playbook.

In October 2025 a Raleigh tree service hired us with 4 inbound web leads per month. In May 2026 they hit 84. Average ticket: $1,840. This is the month-by-month playbook with the analytics screenshots.

Month 1: foundation

Rebuilt the site on TanStack Start (LCP went from 4.2s to 1.1s). Migrated 200 reviews from a third-party widget to native Google review embed. Added Schema for LocalBusiness, Service, and FAQPage. Submitted a clean sitemap. Lead count: 6.

Month 2: GBP and citations

Rebuilt the Google Business Profile (primary category was wrong — set to 'Tree service' instead of 'Arborist' which has half the search volume). Submitted to the top 18 industry citations (TCIA, ISA, BBB, local chamber). Lead count: 11.

Month 3: city + service matrix

Shipped 22 service-area pages (tree removal, emergency tree service, stump grinding × 7 neighborhoods). Each page got original job photos with EXIF location data. Lead count: 19.

Month 4: blog content + interlinking

Published 6 long-form posts targeting informational keywords ('when to remove an oak tree in NC,' 'pine tree removal cost Raleigh,' 'storm damage tree removal insurance claims'). Each linked to 2 service pages with descriptive anchors. Lead count: 31.

Month 5: link building

Earned 8 quality backlinks: local news coverage after Hurricane Helene cleanup volunteering, sponsored a youth baseball team (local high-DA backlink), guest post on a regional landscape blog, and 5 supplier directory links. Lead count: 47.

Month 6: refresh + cluster expansion

Refreshed 8 underperforming pages (added FAQ, updated stats, refreshed photos). Built out an 'emergency tree services' cluster (storm cleanup, fallen tree removal, insurance claim documentation). Lead count: 68.

Month 7: scoreboard

  • Organic sessions: 380 → 8,200/mo
  • Ranking keywords: 47 → 1,140
  • Top-3 keyword count: 3 → 89
  • Google Business Profile views: 1,200 → 12,400
  • Inbound web leads: 4 → 84
  • Cost per lead from organic (amortized): $14

What I'd do differently

Ship the city/service matrix in month 1, not month 3. Two months of compounding indexation is worth more than two months of polish. Also: I'd start the review velocity automation on day one — we waited until month 4 and left rankings on the table.

Frequently asked questions

Could a tree service get these results without rebuilding the website?

Maybe to 30 leads/month. The Core Web Vitals improvement from the rebuild was responsible for roughly 25% of the lift in our attribution model.

How much did this 7-month project cost?

$1,499 setup + $299/mo on our Grow tier, plus $400/mo in citation and link-building spend. Total 7-month cost: roughly $6,600. ROI on $84K of attributed revenue at 30% margin: 3.8x in the first 7 months alone.
